Joe Allen , PT, DPT, OCS

Education: Joe graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Sport in 2006.  He went on to receive his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2009 from Sacred Heart University.  Joe returned to Sacred Heart University in 2011 to complete their Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program. Joe joined PTSMC in August 2011 and was promoted to Assistant Director of Westbrook in 2015. In December of 2015, Joe became Partner and Director of Newington.

Clinical Interests: Joe is currently a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist.  He is certified in the Graston Technique for management of soft tissue injuries. Joe’s clinical interests include manual therapy, post-surgical, chronic pain, and athletic and sport injuries. He is an active member of the Connecticut Physical Therapy Associated and currently serves as a co-chair of the Orthopaedic Special Interest Group.  Joe has a passion for clinical education and teaching.  He was certified by the APTA in 2011 as Certified Clinical Instructor.  In addition to taking on physical therapy students in the clinic and serving as an adjunct professor at Sacred Heart University, Joe also is actively involved in PTSMC’s mentorship program for new graduates.

Fun Facts: Joe is an avid sports enthusiast and can been regularly seen cheering on the NY Giants, Mets and Rangers. He enjoys running and has completed several half marathons and numerous 5Ks.  When he is not working, he can be found traveling with his wife and golden retriever, Finley.



Alyssa Griffo , PT, DPT

Education: Alyssa graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2012 with her Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Science with a minor in psychology. She then earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts in May 2015.
Clinical Interests: Alyssa has a background in treating musculoskeletal conditions and orthopedic surgeries. She enjoys treating athletes, sports-related injuries, and post-surgical patients of all ages.
Fun Facts: Alyssa loves to hike, relax at the beach, and read. She also loves to spend time with her friends and family in her free time.
