Steven de Castro, MSPT
Steven received his Bachelor's in Health Studies cum laude from Boston University in 2001 and Master's in Physical Therapy in 2003. Since graduation he has worked in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy and he joined PTSMC in June 2007.
Steven has expertise with athletes of all ages but has special experience with youth athletes from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston MA. He is has also worked with youths as a coach with Viking Soccer Camps. Steven’s experience makes him an ideal clinician to treat children of all ages. Regardless of age, Steven strives to provide excellent patient care while still having fun. He received his Cyriax Orthopedic Evaluation and Treatment certification in 2006 and has attended various continuing education courses based in Maitland, McConnell, and McKenzie techniques.
Rick Berggren, ATC
Rick graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1976 from the Sports Medicine Program. He then became the assistant director at Temple University Hospital Sports Medicine Center while serving as the operating room assistant to the medical director of the center. In 1978 Rick became the manager of the University of Pennsylvania Sports Medicine Center. Some of his responsibilities included in-house rehabilitation support for the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers. As a liaison for the University of Pennsylvania Rick participated in the organization and creation of Sports Medicine Centers at Binghamton Hospital in New York and Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, Pennsylvania.
After moving back to Connecticut in 1983 Rick and a partner formed the Center for Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation. Since 1985 Rick has at various times provided services as an Athletic Trainer for New London, Montville, Waterford, Ledyard, and Fitch High Schools. At this time, he continues to service Fitch and Ledyard High Schools and serves as the medical education instructor for the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) coaching certification program.
In May of 2007 Centers for Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation merged with Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Centers. Rick continues to serve the various therapeutic needs of greater New London County, athletes, families and neighbors.
Gerdt Propfe, Jr. PT
Gerdt received his Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education from Southern Connecticut State University. He also received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac College in 1975.
Gerdt has worked in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy since 1975. In 1983 Gerdt co-founded the Center for Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation. In 2007, Centers for Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation merged with PTSMC. Gerdt has expertise in providing diligent and comprehensive service in all phases of physical therapy with special interest in orthopedics and sports medicine.
